The Power of Community
There are some people in a community who share the gifts they have and it impacts a lot of people. We are lucky to be based in a community that has lots of folks like that and we want to highlight a few of them.
Grant Searcey is an amazing artist that calls Dahlonega home. ConnectAbility has called Grant a friend for several years and we have worked with Grant to create a logo and host several painting parties for parents of children & adults with disabilities. The video on this page tells you a lot about Grant as a friend and an artist. Grant’s artwork is amazing and he has a large following.
Dahlonega Mountain Sports (DMS) is a community of people who are interested in running, hiking, cycling and are great friends to the community. Sarah Snyder and Sean Lawhorn do a wonderful job of cultivating relationships in the community and sell handcrafted items from local artists in the store. DMS is the exclusive retailer on the Dahlonega Square for Grant Searcey’s artwork.
In true character of their community spirit, Grant Searcey partnered with Dahlonega Mountain Sports on Sunday, August 21 to host a Pop Up Art Show to highlight some of Grant’s latest work. Grant chose to donate a portion of the proceeds from his sales to support children & adults with disabilities in Northeast Georgia through a gift to ConnectAbility.
As I stepped into the store on that hot August afternoon, I was met with a crowd! It was such a welcoming and exciting atmosphere. It was great to see so many people from our local community and others who traveled many miles to meet Grant and see his artwork.
When I came back to the ConnectAbility office on Tuesday morning (after seeing the incredible solar eclipse on Monday!), our daily calendar had this quote:
This rings so true for each and every person on this planet and is so fitting when I think about our friends Grant Searcey and Dahlonega Mountain Sports.
Thank you Grant, Sarah & Sean for using your gifts to share with others in the community. You are changing lives one painting, one pair of shoes, one smile at a time. Thank you for your gift to ConnectAbility and your generosity to our community.
