He Came Down

Christmas is a wonderful time of year. Or at least it should be. It seems like everyone gets so caught up in the craziness of the season – shopping, buying gifts, decorating, endless parties and special events. “Are you ready for Christmas yet?” is the question everyone asks. Most people answer a stress-riddled, “Not yet!”.

December 26 is a relief. Whew! We made it through another Christmas season. As if it is some type of endurance event that we have to struggle through. Trash cans overflow with boxes and wrapping paper. Customer Service lines stretch almost out the door with people returning all the unwanted stuff they got as gifts.

But this “busyness” is not the original meaning of Christmas and it really shouldn’t be our focus today. Christmas is a time to reflect on God’s gift to humanity through his Son, Jesus. If you’ve ever watched the Charlie Brown Christmas Special you have heard the story straight from the Bible. (You can download an app here with the Charlie Brown story).

There is an organization in England that just published a video that is so unique I had to share it with you. It’s a nativity play made up of children and young adults with Down syndrome.

It’s a beautiful parallel about one mom’s unexpected experience with Down syndrome in her daughter and Mary, the Mother of Jesus. Mary’s becoming pregnant was unexpected and she chose to trust that God had a plan. And in both cases, the mothers were surprised to see what unfolded before their eyes in their children.

Here’s the bottom line: Christmas is about Jesus.
And it’s a time to remember that sometimes we experience unexpected circumstances in our lives, but God has a plan behind it all.

Every life that God creates has value and indeed the fact that God created that life is what makes it inherently valuable. And no matter where you are in the journey of your life, you are not alone. You can find a friend in ConnectAbility.
