My friends, I know it sounds a little wild.
When I first told people we were moving an actual house, the responses ranged from “Wait, like physically move it?” to “Is that even possible?” And truthfully, I asked the same questions myself at one point.
But here we are. It’s happening.
We are moving a house — not because it’s the easiest way forward, but because it’s the right way forward.
This home we’re relocating isn’t just wood and nails. It holds a story, a legacy, and now a new future. And like so many of the people we serve at ConnectAbility, this house deserves to be seen not just for what it was, but for what it can become with the right support.
At ConnectAbility, we’ve always believed that transformation doesn’t happen overnight, and it rarely happens in isolation. It takes time. It takes hands and hearts. And sometimes… it takes moving an entire structure to create the space for something beautiful to rise.
We’re calling this journey The Hillcrest House, and it will unfold in three stages: Foundation, Restoration, and Transformation — because those words aren’t just about construction. They speak to the heart of our mission. They’re about people. They’re about belonging. They’re about building a community where everyone is valued, included, and empowered.
The foundation we’re building is about more than concrete. It’s trust, belonging, and the shared belief that everyone has value.
The restoration will take work—just like restoring dignity. It will take work to restore someone’s confidence or remind a family that they’re not alone.
And the transformation… well, I think we’ll all be changed by this. Not just the building. All of us. As we walk this road together, as we pick up hammers and share meals and show up with our full selves, we’re creating something lasting.
A home base.
A place of safety, celebration, and inclusion.
A place where every person — regardless of ability — knows that they are not just welcome, but wanted.
So yes, we’re moving a house. And yes, it’s a big project. But around here, we believe in doing the big, bold, messy things — especially when they’re rooted in love.
